In the early months of 2013, I had the crazy impulse to attempt a thru hike of the Appalachian Trail. In just a couple of months, I made the decision to begin the journey of a lifetime. With little outdoor experience, and some new gear, I flew south to Georgia to begin my 2,200 mile walk.
Along the way, I updated my trail blog, “Adventures of a Trail Stooge,” whenever I went into town to take a short break from the trail. Check out the blog as well as some other features like gear reviews, pictures of plants and animals I saw along the way, and summit pictures of my best trail friends.
Adventures of a Trail Stooge, the book, is available now from Amazon. The journal is a collection of my daily thoughts and feelings along the trail. I am not proud of each and every entry in the journal. Frustrations and fatigue show their faces in the pages of the journal. Through those warts, the journal shows the truth about the trail — it is not all sun and warmth and happiness. But despite those entries I cringe at, I discovered something amazing on the trail. I found something fulfilling, awe inspiring, and lovely.
